“Out of the Cradle” from 2002’s Vapor Trails:
This song is actually a bit of a puzzle, but I like to think of it as a metaphor for life. We start life by coming “out of the cradle,” and then time, dreaded time, does nothing but wear us down as we go through the motions of living and loving, planning and doing, building and destroying, oblivious (or not) to the inevitable end we all face.
Surge of energy, spark of inspiration
The breath of love is electricity
Maybe time is a bird in flight
Here we come out of the cradle
Endlessly rocking—both through life and in the cradle. From life to death.
