“Prime Mover” from 1987’s Hold Your Fire:
Here’s a nice little look at how we all control our own lives and the meaning of that life. We are the “Prime Mover” of our lives.
I set the clouds in motion
Turn up light and sound
Activate the window
And watch the world go `round1
We make the decisions that directly affect our lives. What to do, where to work, who to love. Sometimes choices can be made that affect us, but we choose how we act in relation to those circumstances.
From the point of ignition
To the final drive
The point of a journey
Is not to arrive1
This is an old sentiment, nicely expressed here. It’s not the destination (that destination is always the same for everybody—Death), but how we get there, how we live our lives up until they end. From the “point of ignition” (birth) to the “final drive” (the last journey—into death), our legacy is how we live the in-between time.
