Happy birthday, America?

So much talk. So much anger. So much destructive conflict throughout America. So much division.

Black vs white. Rich vs poor. Cops vs citizens. Democrats vs republicans. Gay marriage. Insulting Supreme Court Justices. Non-apologies. Name-calling. Standardized testing to measure individuals. Lowest-common-denominators.

Real murders. Fake rapes. Style over substance. Journalist activists. Activist judges. Don’t discipline a 4-year-old. Incarcerate a 16-year-old.

Loud-mouthed businessmen running for President. Candidates lassoing reporters so they don’t have to answer questions. “Low” unemployment rate. Stratospheric labor non-participation rates. Stagnant wages. Rising healthcare costs.

Church shootings. Churches burning. Churches being threatened with legal action. “I believe in God” is cause for ridicule and lawsuits. Discrimination is wrong. Discrimination is acceptable when conjured rights trump explicit rights. Read between the words. Ignore the words.

Symbols of racism being toppled. TV shows being taken off the air. History erased. History forgotten. History repeated.

Gender is fluid. So too, race. Be who you want. White privilege.

Enforce borders abroad. Not so at home.

No federal budget. Endless federal spending. Troops “training” on American soil against “insurgents.” Troops going back to the middle east to fight the same wars. Americans being radicalized and fighting overseas. Americans being radicalized and fighting here at home.

Injure soldiers. Don’t give them health care. Drive them to suicide. Put them on hold.

Children not being allowed to play outside without being taken from their parents for “neglect.” Children being taken from their parents for being taken to the wrong hospital.

America celebrating 239 years in existence. Backyard BBQs and fireworks under fire from the EPA.

Something is wrong, America. Something is desperately wrong.

“We the people, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this constitution for the United States of America.”
