For those of you in the Denver area, the folks at Denver Comic Con have just announced a new guest (and Salt Lake Comic Con alum):
Carrie Fisher to Attend Denver Comic Con 2016
Iconic Actress/Writer to Meet Fans
at Denver’s Premier Pop Culture Event
DENVER – February 12, 2016 – Denver Comic Con (DCC), Denver’s largest consumer convention and a program of education-nonprofit Pop Culture Classroom (PCC), today announced it is bringing Carrie Fisher to the June 17 – 19, 2016 event at the Colorado Convention Center.
Fisher, best known for her role as Princess Leia in the first three Star Wars films, “A New Hope,” The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi,” recently reprised her iconic role for the most recent installment, “The Force Awakens.”
“Fisher brings to life a brave and powerful character that generations of girls looked up to,” said Christina Angel, Denver Comic Con director. “Leia isn’t a princess in the traditional Disney sense— she is a member of the Imperial Senate, one of the Rebel Alliance’s greatest leaders, fearless on the battlefield and dedicated to ending the tyranny of the Empire – she does not wait for her prince to rescue her. Not only is Leia an amazing example of female strength, but so is Fisher herself – Denver Comic Con is lucky to have her speak to us about her career and experiences.”
In addition to her role as Leia, Fisher has acted in other iconic films such as the Blues Brothers, When Harry Met Sally, and Shampoo. A bestselling author, screen writer, and mental health advocate, Fisher is the author of five bestselling novels, “Wishful Drinking,” “Surrender the Pink,” “Delusions of Grandma,” “The Best Awful” and “Postcards from the Edge,” which was made into a hit film starring Shirley MacLaine and Meryl Streep.
Fisher joins previously announced guests in the 2016 Denver Comic Con lineup including Stan Lee (Marvel Comics) Ralph Macchio (Karate Kid and The Outsiders), C. Thomas Howell (The Outsiders), William Zabka and Martin Kove (Karate Kid), and Jenna Coleman and Alex Kingston (Doctor Who) among many other comic book creators and pop culture celebrities.
Denver Comic Con has quickly become one of the most attended pop culture conventions in America. The popularity is due in part because of its robust schedule of programming—more than 400 hours of sessions during which artists, creators, celebrities and industry experts talk about their craft and their creations—as well as its family-friendly mission and environment. The largest portion of the show floor, more than 9,000 sq. ft., is dedicated to teens and children with activities designed to engage kids in education through pop culture.
Carrie Fisher was an awesome guest here in Salt Lake last year, so I know that the folks or in Denver are going to have a great time with her.
See you around the shadow!
